Shangri-La Mobile Recording Studio: PRESS RELEASE

With Shangri-La Mobile, producer Duane Lundy (Jim James, Ben Sollee, These United States, Vandaveer, Chico Fellini, and Adam Arcuragi) brings his years of experience and impressive digital and analog equipment locker on the road.  An array of soundboards, microphones, amplifiers, and instruments transform a remote barn, an urban loft, a live concert hall — if you can locate it, he can capture it — to create your ideal recording space.

Inspired by classic albums from “Exile on Main Street” to “Joshua Tree,” advances in modern audio technology, and contemporaries such as Nigel Godrich and Daniel Lanois, Lundy works with artists’ own influences to harness the unique character of inspiring places.  He emphasizes performance, dynamics, texture, and adaptability to the locale over more traditional retentive composite-based recording.

For rates and availability, or to see just how far into a mountainous South American jungle he’s willing to transport his rig, contact Lundy: duane@shangrilaproductions.net

He currently plays guitar and sings with Lexington favorites The Tallboys (blues, rock), Club Dub (reggae, funk), and The Payback (soul). Eames also draws loyal audiences as an acoustic solo act.

For 10 in 20, Eames recorded “Riot Goin’ On” in a single take, in a live unaccompanied performance that sounds like an ensemble. Eames simultaneously plays guitar rhythm and melody, croons with a soulful baritone, and adds boot-powered percussion.

Vandaveer is a dynamic alt-folk outfit from D.C. that centers around the harmonies of Mark Charles Heidinger and Rose Guerin. Choosing their words with a distinct sincerity, the duo sing the lows of the human experience just as well as the highs on their third LP, Dig Down Deep. “The Great Gray” is a haunting little tune about death, and now it has a creepy little video to match. The clip features a gas mask-sporting guitarist tearing around an abandoned house in search of various knick-knacks—the end goal being a tiny Frankenstein audience of homemade dolls. Check out the video in the player below.

A nice article in the North of Center Magazine.

Review of Palisades: “Luxury and Riot”

“Even in the digital age, there’s really no substitute for a well-equipped studio, skilled engineering, and a producer who knows how to make bands sound the best they possibly can.

Which is precisely what Duane Lundy, working at Lexington’s Shangri-la Studio, has done for Palisades on their new EP Luxury and Riot. Palisades are a three-piece outfit working in a musical vein that manages to recall the early-nineties heyday of post-punk college radio while avoiding its atonal excesses and navel-gazing attitudes; instead there’s a reverence for both noisy guitars and the well-crafted pop song.

What Palisades and Lundy have accomplished on this release is something close to the perfect combination of the raw and the produced:”
